There are five basic ways we are going to talk about here that will help you increase your donation size like never before.
Improve Your Site
One of the first things you can do to increase your donation size is to improve your website.
The cool thing about a website is that it's like an additional fundraiser you have on your payroll - only you don't have to pay it, it works 24/7, and it has contact all over the world.
However, just like any other fundraiser you have working or volunteering for you, in order for it to do its job, it has to have certain qualities.
Make sure your website is up-to-date and doing everything it can to help you.
The Message You Use to Connect with Your Donors
Along with your website, you need to work on your messaging. This can mean crafting the right message for your donors. However, it can also mean getting your message out to the right people.
You can work on both of these items by creating donor personas. These will help you figure out the message that will work best for your donors, and it will show you where your potential donors are most likely to find you.
The Forms You Get Donors to Fill Out
Even after you convince people to donate to your great organization, you are not done. The forms you use to collect their payment information matter a lot.
Make sure that your forms are simple and effective. Test out various forms to see what works best for you. And keep them simple and easy to use.
The Way You Ask for the Donation
Once you have gotten everything prepared for your donors, you have to take the hard step and actually ask for the donation.
You are a not-for-profit organization. Of course you want donations! Right?
Well, maybe. But you still shouldn't assume that your potential donors realize this. You still need to actually ask - not hint, not assume. And you need to ask in a way that is best designed to help you succeed in your request.
The Way You Follow-Up
Even after you get a donation, you have to keep following-up with your donors. Let them see how you are doing and how they helped. Make them feel good about their donation.
Then, when it comes time to ask them for more, they are a.) more willing to give it and b.) more likely to increase their donations.
And that's it! Try out some of these, and then let us know if your donations increase.
