Earlier this week, we had a post where we had to announce the passing of Joel Marin. Now, we want to do something in his honor.
Joel had a lifelong love of the the Boy Scouts, and it shows because he is one of the few who made it all the way to Eagle Scout status. But just because he turned 18 didn't mean he stopped loving the scouts. So throughout college, he worked with the organization. And then he kept working with them until 2015.
He spent a large portion of his life working with and helping support the Boy Scouts, and we want to help him continue supporting this cause, even now that he is no longer with us.
Joel also had a love of baseball - in fact, that is what he was doing on the day that he died.
Everyone at GiveSmart wants to do something to celebrate Joel while also getting to help a cause that was so close to his heart.
So, on July 19th, we will close our office early and head across the street to watch the Braves and the Cubs. And when we are there, we will be wearing our Marin jerseys in his honor.
Now, we don't have enough tickets to the game to share with everyone, but we do have enough jerseys. Anyone can buy one for $20 - and all the funds we raise will go directly to the Boy Scouts of America - in Joel's name.
If you'd like to support a great cause and do something to honor Joel, then you can buy a shirt on the personal fundraising site we have set up for him.
We can't make the fact that he is no longer with us better. But we can do something for him that we know he would have loved. And we hope you'll want to help.
